Due to a myriad of factors including concerns over global warming, excessive dependence on expensive and volatile sources of foreign energy, greenhouse gas emissions from dirty coal and gas burning power plants, wind energy has emerged as the leading source for clean, renewable energy in the US and around the world. In the US, state governments have taken a leadership role by passing legislation mandating increases in the overall percentage of electrical energy derived and available from clean/renewable sources to up to 20% (current levels in many states are currentlyas low as 1%). Moreover, the Obama administration is in the process of trying to pass a 15-25% Federal requirement in the current Energy Bill. All of this has lead to an unprecedented explosion in the demand for energy derived from wind turbines in recent years. Although the industry has suffered from stalled growth for much of 2009 due to the global economic crisis and subsequent lack of available credit to finance new wind farms, all indications point towards a robust recovery in 2010. This situation continues to present a great opportunity for electronic & mechanically inclined ambitious workers who are currently in short supply, but greatly needed to maintain not only existing turbines, but the many thousands more that are sure to be installed in the coming years.
